It was a long drive today and I was not sure how far I'd get but as luck would have it I caught the last ferry at seven pm from Wellington across to Picton in the South Island. Its a beautiful three hour journey on the ferry which helped distract me from the matter in hand. I had no idea where I was going to stay on arrival in pitch dark. Out with the Lonely Planet and everywhere was booked and no campsites open that time of night.

Day 74 South Island Ferry

Until.....the lady from Blenheims motor inn took pity on me over the phone when my parting statement was "Where is the safest place to crash out in the car". She kindly let me have one of the workers rooms as he was away. The bunk was a welcome sight and tomorrow I go in search of Whales...............
