Day 78 Christchurch (Tranz Scenic Railway)

The first scenic rail journey of my trip to the alps at Arthurs Pass. (I did get on the right train Gwyneth). The train has a viewing carriage too which is like being outdoors on a timber platform going at sixty miles an hour which is exactly come to think of it what it was.

My chosen trek on arrival was to "Devils Punchbowl" waterfall. No sign of the devil and he must be on water these days judging by the waterfall which I stared at for ages because its so high the water mists down in in plumes as against running over the rock. Hope that explains it.

I took in lunch at the wobbly Kia. Thes are mountain parrots unique to New Zealand. They are incredibly intelligent and mischevious. They are known to open rucsac zips and fly off with the takings. I found them a likeable bunch of rogues and they entertained till the train arrived for the return journey.

An early night in anticipation of another early start for the hot air balooning.......weather permitting of course.
