Day 86 Wanaka (Mountain Bike and the Wind)

Wanaka is a mountain biking town and no shortage of bike shops. It reminds me a lot of Flagstaff in the states which is also a ski resort. I explored the nearby trails and went past Lake Wanaka. Its such an outdoor way of life here where every family seems to have their own boat on a trailer and off to the Lake they go.

I've been trying to go paragliding off a nearby mountain and today it seemedconditions were perfect. Driver Steve and pilot Rob arrived and we sped off up the mountain (the ski resort road) to about 800 metres which is pretty high when you run off the edge of it to get airborne. However by the time we reached the point (called Pub Corner) the wind had got too strong. Never mind I got a free tour of the area from it and hope to go for it on Friday.

It gets incredibly hot inland so I went into the lake for an evening swim before an early night ahead of my skydive in the morning.....pitter patter on the tent the rain had arrived.....doh!
