Day 123 Melbourne (Australian Cricket )

Early five am start for my flight to Australia. As I waited at the bustop a taxi driver drove past offering the same fare as the airbus to myself and two other passengers. We all jumped at the chance as much in part to escape the stench of the bus stop's inhabitant whose choice of cologne most definately resembled 'eau de buckfast'.

My great friend Melvyn (also known as 'Swerve' on account of not taking the corner on the way home from a dance, slightly distracted one night) was there to meet me in Melbourne. We both went to school together and were brought up on nearby crofts. Melvyn chose some years ago to apply his craftmanship on the other side of the world where he now pieces together the most difficult sections of state of the art naval ships and looks after his budding musician and music magazine reviewer son Mathew.

So where else would Melvyn live than Sutherland Road!! So named after our fine home county in the Highlands of Scotland and Melvyn's clan name.

After sampling the best in cafe culture Melbourne has to offer in nearby Chapel Street we made our way to Melbourne Cricket Groround to see Australia defeat Sri Lanka. I'd never watched cricket before so this was a first. I was impressed with the atmosphere and the passion of the fans (plastic kangaroos included).

However where the giant Zorbs come into play I'm still not sure?
