Day 125 Melbourne (William Ricketts Sanctuary)
Today Melvyn drove us to see William Ricketts sanctuary. A natural haven outside Melbourne.
William Ricketts was an artist who had a deep and abiding love of the natural environment. He believed that people are custodians of the earth and was inspired by the connection that Australian Aborigines have with the land. Many of William Ricketts’ sculptures reflect his high opinion of these people and their relationship to the earth. Aboriginal figures and animals seemingly grow from the rocks, lie hidden amongst the ferns and appear as one with the bush. In all there are over 90 sculptures to discover.
We watched a video on William and I have to say he was way out there, a complete eccentric and good on him its a unique and peacefual place. Well it was till a kookaburra started giving it laldie. Unfortunately my camera batteries packed in shortly after arriving and I was unable to capture the funny looking bird. Note to self..spare batteries.
