Day 68 Gisborne (Golfing, Motorbiking and Gazing at the Satellites)

I had to set the alarm for this morning (which is a bit of a novelty these days) as we were on the tee for 8am at Patutj golf course with Arran's pal Steve and son James. In a blistering heat we sauntered around the nine holes and returned to the house for a couple of cold ones and a Jenga tournament.

Then onto the local Thai resteraunt with Sharon and Arron to try my first red thai curry followed by a double scoop of lime and boison berry at the locally renowned Captain Morgans ice cream shop.
In the evening and to the words of Stepenwolfs "Born to be Wild" racing through my head we set off on on Arrons Suzuki "Intruder" motorbike around the country lanes outside Gisborne. I was petrified let me tell you a 100kph outside the womb like confines of a motor car and sitting a few feet from the tarmac is terrifying until you have done it long enough to be desensitised or stop caring. Worse a wild turkey ran out on us on a corner. How I hated that turkey.

In the evening after a delicious meal prepared by Sharon we then received a lesson on the stars above Gisborne. No light polution here and then to our amazement a satellite spun by like a bright star to begin with and faded into the night as it followed its never ending orbit completely oblivious to our expressions of wonder. Initially I thought it was a UFO and just like the movies my camera did not work. A few days later Grumpy Graeme a friend of Sharon and Arrans would tell us there are always satellites flying by. Pretty cool.
