Day 173 Miri (Speedboat and Marriot Hotel)

This morning Ian took me along to the Panaga boat club where he was to do a refresher course on using the speedboat. The crocodile sign concerned me. Here is a video of Ian's driving! Just double click on the play sign in the bottom left hand corner of the picture below....if you dare....

With the refresher course taken by Paul (a fine speed boats professional) Ian then called upon Nikki and the kids and we set off up river to see the old water village now in dereliction.

Its also where the Iban tribe kept the skullsn from their headhunting days and I'm not referring to staff recruitment here!! Skull collection pictured above.

We then set off across the border in advance of my flight to Kuching. The Mackays treated me to a stay in the Marriot. How will I ever adjust to the backpacking after this?

We met up with Ian and Nikkis friend Steve who lives in the Marriot as part of his helicopter pilot duties! In between returning to Canada to his family every six weeks. Steve kindly lent me his computer as Id not arranged accommodation for Kuching tomorrow and this was much appreciated. Returning to the hostel dorms was one thing, sleeping rough was another.

A cold beer and a swim in the pool (which has seats in the water at the bar) before heading to a local resteraunt for some fine Malaysian food. Then back to the hotel balcony for a cheildh!
