Day 10 Lake Meade to Flagstaff

The focus was on reaching the mighty Grand Canyon today and the detectives amongst you will have already spotted the clock near five in Flagstaff above. So why the detour? Well the day got off to a slow start as bathing from a cup and saucer was required. The joys of camping...no the hassles of end of season shower maintenance at Boulder Beach campsite more like.

There was also the time consuming matter of easing myself of the buffets by a lunchtime helping or two in Boulder City. Last one, promise. By mid afternoon the mountain bike Mecca of Flagstaff became the preferred destination in view of fading daylight. Mountain should have been the key word here as I checked into Woody Mountain Campground with its friendly owners advising this was the final night of the season as snow often appeared.

Roughly translated this amounted to my tent and two RVs to a small forest with one hundred and seventy pitches on the outkirts of town at halloween. Not to be deterred and ever the optomist from Boulder beach I went ahead. Fast forward to ten pm realising my two season sleeping bag just was not warm enough and I was in a forest on my own at Halloween. Faster than bolt of lightning I was out onto Route 66 and a cheap motel to avoid hypothermia and vampire attack.
