Its now been nine days of pretty much 24 hour rain and call me old fashioned but enough is enough. Left the campsite very early with the mindset to flee to Oz on a hessian raft start of January. Mother nature or the New Zealand toursist board must have picked up on this vibe as within an hour the first rays of sunshine began to turn my sewing machine on wheels (Dhaihatsu Sirius 1300cc rental car) into a microwave.I stopped the car and ran around this field naked with joy (no sheep jokes please) !! More good luck was to follow as I arrived in the river resort of Wanganui and discovered the Anndion Lodge hostel which is stunning and Ann and Dion its owners (Anndion...get it) have gone to enormous lengths to make it so. Unpacked the rucsac and hit the beach after booking a canoe trip on the Wanganui river for tomorrow....
