Day 57 Papamoa (Rob and Lou's)

Today involved a five hour drive from Wanaganui to Papamoa beach to stay with friends of the family Rob and Lou. The drive took me North through Rotorua with only a brief stop for lunch at "I Love Sushi" (which I do) for some miso soup I'd wanted to try on account of having read a book once called "cold miso soup". It tasted as you would expect of soup so no surprises there everyone.

Rotorua is known as 'Sulphur City' with its thermal pools and bubbling mud baths but is also gaining the name "Fartopolis" due to the ever present smell of rotten eggs. This in my opinion is a bit unkind and I'm sure grates with the towns marketing agent Jeff.

After a fine meal and catch up it was clear to me Rob and Lou (who I'd not met before) had done more than a fair bit of backpacking in their day and appreciated the joy on my face of having my own room and wardrobe ahead of me for the next few days. Palatial (is their such a word?).

Rob is a Kiwi, mechanical man by trade, proficient fisherman, scuba diver, stock car racer, surfer...the list goes on..

Lou is originally from Rosehall in Scotland, served with the air force and married a mechanical man by trade, proficient fisherman, scuba diver, stock car racer and surfer ..yes you guessed it.....Rob!!

A wee thank you here to Uncle Donnie and Auntie Margaret (Lou's sister) for introducing me to Rob and Lou.
