Day 58 Papamoa (Climbing Mount Maunganui)

I explored Papamoa beach in the morning and watched the surfers challenge the crashing waves. It was all the motivation I needed to spur me on to the local surfshop and walk out twenty well advised minutes later the proud owner of a wetsuit, bodyboard and fins.

So you would expect surfing to be top of the agenda for the afternoon. Well Yes and No. The waves looked bigger than half an hour ago and more than a bit nervous I opted instead for plan B to climb nearby Mount Maunganui and climb it I did. All a bit quickly as lets face it you will tell from the photo there is not much Mountain about it. It did however give great panoramas (for those unsure of this fancy word it means views and should not be confused with the hard hitting documentary programme of the same name).

Another pleasent evening with Rob and Lou and particularly memorable stories from Rob of his many years of untutored do it yourself crayfish scuba diving and resulting near death experiences to which Lou could only shake her head in a manner that suggest the man is mad.

As I went to bed I could hear the waves calling me and I was so excited.... ..............
