Day 91 Wanaka (Swimming and Quirky Cinema)

After locating the post office this morning to send home a parcel of mementoes and dvd footage of recent skydive and bungy I spent the day practicing my swimming at Lake Wanaka as dozens of sail boats filled the horizon. My breathing technique is improving. Only swallowed half the loch today.

That left the evening for the small local cinema to see the amusing British film Death at a Funeral. The webiste reads "This small classic movie theatre located in Wanaka is a real find. Comfy old sofas, 3 seats in an old Morris Minor, a cafe and bar serving delicious meals before, during or after the movie, homemade icecream and hot cookies for intermission and a warm welcome from the friendly patron who introduces the film with Celtic flair! The Lonely Planet travel guide lists the cinema as a "must do" and it is truly a unique and memorable movie experience!"

Sounds good ..well I'm pleased to say it was. Not seen anything quite like it. Old couches all lined up but also fully taken. (A bit like the Starbucks couches). So where do I sit I wondered? Pretty quickly I observed others collecting seat cushions below the screen and then sitting on them between the aisles. Had to laugh you dont see that often!

To add to the novelty all the prefilm commercials were local and made with great humour. Wanaka is a small place (pop 4000) and I got the distinct impression from chuckles in the audience that several people in the adverts were also sitting in the cimema.

Back to the tent and battening down the hatches as monsoons predicted for tonight and tomorrow....
